Illustrator Postcards
August 8, 2016

After a bit of a hiatus for a pretty awesome traveling stint, I am back at it working on my portfolio and various children’s book concepts. Right before I left on my travels in 2015 I sent out my first batch of illustrator postcards and am finally getting to posting them here. I didn’t know much regarding how to go about doing whole postcard thing, so I googled and found some very useful articles that helped me down this path…

I created the artwork for this stationery and letterpress printed them on my press last year. I wanted to have a nice crisp set of business and note cards as I prepared for the Fall SCBWI conference in Oregon and I’m finally getting around to showing them off here!

Happy Little Gnome

I am working on some ideas for a new batch of illustrator postcards and keep coming back to gnomes and mushrooms! Sticking to a limited palette is new for me, but I really love what can happen with just 3 or 4 colors.

Little birdie gets into mischief
November 14, 2014

I’ve been trying to draw first thing each morning and this week I kept coming up with ideas for this little birdie who flies by an open window and gets into all kinds of mischief inside. It’s also part of the work for my Children’s Book Academy course I am currently enrolled in, where we are working on character development. It’s been a lot of fun giving this guy a personality. My favorite is his discovery of the typewriter! Trying to think…

PiBoIdMo – Yowza!
November 3, 2014

I am thrilled to be participating in PiBoIdMo (Picture Book Idea Month)! for the month of November. My pencils are sharp and my cute notebook has already been scribbled in! Now, let the ideas pour in (even just a trickle would be fine, Idea Gods). Not only am I downright slap-happy to get my ideas on paper, but also the amount of incredible information and amazing guest bloggers from Tara Lazar’s blog is blowing me away. I am enjoying being…

Biscuit Queen
October 17, 2014

It’s food truck Friday – for me that means going to my favorite taco truck for lunch with my husband. A tradition I look forward to every week. We’ve been going to the same truck (Taqueria Pardos) for the last 8 years…every single Friday. Some quick math means I’ve had 2,496 tacos since 2007 – Geesh! Oink! Yay tacos! Which is why I’ve been thinking food trucks all day and sketched up this little guy, because in my next life,…

Introducing Chloe the Crab
October 12, 2014

I am in progress of developing characters for my book and along the way I am realizing I have about 10 book ideas and characters to go with! Are they all good ideas? Of course – ha! at least I think they are. Here is one character I am currently working on. Her name is Chloe…she’s a west coast crab (Dungeness, perhaps?) and is obsessed with dinosaurs (currently, the brontosaurus) and brings her toy with her everywhere. She is also fearless,…

Vote the Environment!
October 7, 2014

I heard about this Vote the Environment campaign that was running through Patagonia, Creative Action Network and the Canary Project where artists from all over the world are creating poster designs to encourage and inspire folks to get out and vote for the environment in the November elections. Read more. There are so many amazing designs on there – definitely check out this campaign, as well as the others on the Creative Action Network site. Needless to say, I was excited to…

Wedding Invitations

I really get to work with some awesome people. Christine came to me from New York and wanted a completely hand-illustrated save the date and wedding invitation. Little did I know at first that she is an amazing illustrator herself! We ended up collaborating on the final design – I created all the lettering and Christine created the graphics and I am so happy with the end results. Although I have lots of favorites on this particular project, (gold edge…
